Jordan's offers free furniture if the Red Sox winFor Red Sox fans Barry and Eliot Tatelman’s, rooting for their home town team this season takes on a whole new dimension. Yesterday, the brothers and owners of Jordan’s furniture announced through a series of local television commercials that all sales at Jordan’s Furniture locations between now and April 16th will be fully reimbursed should the Red Sox win the World Series in 2007.

“And if the Red Sox win the world championship…they will be yours for free…,” the commercial said.

Jordan’s executives speaking to WBZ-TV reporter Joe Shortsleeve (perhaps the best TV name in the business) wouldn’t comment on exact numbers but did estimate that sales over the five weeks that the promotion will be running could top $20 million dollars. But don’t worry too much for the local “celebrities” Barry and Elliot, the money wouldn’t come directly out of their pockets. The cost of the promotion equates to the license fee paid to the Red Sox to use their name, advertising spots, and a little bit of insurance. Call it a calculated risk, and an inventive promotion from a local advertising juggernaut.

“I am rooting for the Red Sox,” said Elliot Tatelman of Jordan’s Furniture. “We bought insurance that is going to cover the whole thing I would never have done it if I was going to be rooting against the Red Sox, let’s put it that way.”

Its genius! Now, if/when they do win, anyone who says they “knew” it would happen can be officially called out unless they are sitting in their new living room set!

If the Sox win then Jordans has insurance to pay Jordans. The insurance company is going to get their money by raising the premiums of other companys. Those are the people that will loose.

I’m concern in what your actully saying. One area states if the Red Sox win the “World Series” and then in a lower statement you state ” “World ChampionshiP”

I believe these are 2 different games.

Barry Or Elliot… can you explain further

    Stop being concerned, Concerned.

Jordan’s Furniture is OWNED by a company that primarily deals in insurance: Berkshire Hathaway. And rates don’t go up at other companies just because an insurer has to pay. That’s just not how it works.

I greatly hope that the when the Red Sox win the World Series, all will become loose - ha. The word you were looking for was “lose.” And Carol, please (maybe sports should really be left to men). And Driver, “that’s just not how it works” is not, and never will be, an acceptable response. Imagine telling you child to answer his algebra teacher with an answer, following it up with the explanation that “that’s just how it works.”

I guess, however, that if I went to enough websites, and looked at enough ridiculous comments, I wouldn’t be surprised. Have a nice day all, and go Red Sox.

  18. […] Back around spring training time a local furniture company, Jordan’s Furniture, ran a promotion that if the Boston Red Sox won the 2007 World Series certain items of furniture purchased during a period in the spring would be free (see: Free furniture if the Red Sox win it all again). […]

I am a Portland Insurance agent and this pay out is nothing for the insurance company in relative terms.

I worked in transportation for a major furniture manufacturer out of Tupelo MS at the time of the promotion, …let me tell you, the promotion was a big deal for us. We shipped 6-10 full 53′ trailer truckloads a week to Jordan’s for around 2 months or more. If you are not familiar with the business, that’s a whole heck of a lot of furniture! The promotion certainly provided a boon to our local economy; not just for our particular company, but for many others like us. Our area of the state (northeast MS) relies heavily on manufacturing to survive, so we certainly appreciate the promotion. GO SOX!!!!! from a Southern Sox fan.

I want to know how to do the same concept for my business and which insurance company will do this

  22. on 29 Oct 2007 at 7:44 pm novice

The ‘insurance’ company could be any casino in Las Vegas. At the time of the promotion, the Red Sox were 10:1 odds for winning the world series. So, by taking 10% of the price of the furniture, Jordan’s could place a bet and have the entire amount insured. The end result is that this promotion amounts to a 10% off sale. But, the way they presented it is marketing genius. Jordan’s also probably got better that 10:1 odds given the size of the deal. 10:1 is what the average person off the street could get in the casino.

This promotion also didn’t include everything that is normally purchased when buying furniture. I believe, for example, that if you bought a dining room set, the promotion would cover the table but not the chairs. At least, that is what I heard.

Congratulations to anyone that benefitted from this deal!!

This deal is the reason Red Sox won, many prayers.
